Every skylight installation we carry out comes with a 10-year workmanship guarantee. Put plainly, it covers the work we did: how the unit was fitted and weathered, and the lining and finish we formed inside. It is a guarantee from Brightview, resting on our own commitment to put our work right, and it is not insurance-backed.
What the guarantee covers
- Weathering and flashing
- The flashings, upstands, seals and roof-covering work we fitted around the rooflight.
- Fixing of the unit
- How the frame or kerb was fixed to the roof structure, and whether it has moved or loosened because of how it was installed.
- The lining and finish
- The lining we formed, the plaster or board and tape, the beads and the edge, as described in your finish schedule. If a bead fails or the plaster lifts because of how we did it, that is ours to fix.
The guarantee runs for ten years from the day the work is finished. It applies to the home where we did the work and stays with the work, so it remains relevant if you sell the house and the new owner has a question about the installation.
What sits outside it
A guarantee is only useful if it is clear, so here is where it stops.
- Manufacturer defects
- A fault in the glass, the frame, the motor or the sensor is a product matter, covered by the manufacturer's own warranty. We help you make that claim and, where we can, arrange the visit.
- Damage
- Impact, accidental damage and anything caused after we have left.
- Alterations by others
- If someone else cuts into the roof, changes the lining or fits something to the unit, the guarantee does not extend to that work.
- Normal wear
- Paint fades, seals age and glass needs cleaning. These are ordinary maintenance.
- Storm damage
- Damage from severe weather, such as a falling branch or exceptional wind, is a matter for your home insurance.
How to make a claim
Email info@brightviewskylightsexeter.co.uk with your name, the address, a short description of the problem and a few photographs of the rooflight and the ceiling around it. A picture of the spot from inside the room, and one from the roof if it is safely visible, both help.
We read what you send, then arrange a visit to look at it. If the cause is our workmanship, we put it right at no charge to you. If it turns out to be a product fault, we tell you plainly and point you to the manufacturer's warranty.
We will always tell you straight away what we think the cause is, and if we are unsure we say so and look at it with you. Having photographs, and your finish schedule to hand, makes that conversation quicker.
If a visit shows the problem is ours, we agree with you when we will return to put it right, and we fix the cause as well as the symptom, so the same thing does not come back.
Your statutory rights
The guarantee is in addition to your legal rights as a consumer, not a replacement for them. Nothing here limits what the law gives you.
What the guarantee is for
A guarantee is a statement about how we expect the work to hold up. The roof work and the inside finish are both part of it, so you are not left with a sound roof and a lifting edge, or the reverse. Before you decide, ask to see the finish schedule, which sets out the inside work the guarantee refers to, and read how we work. When you are ready, use the quote form.
