Brightview Skylights Exeter installs and replaces skylights and rooflights in homes across Exeter and 30 miles around, from the Exe estuary to the Dartmoor edge. We fit roof windows, flat rooflights, roof lanterns, sun tunnels, conservation rooflights and walk-on glass, and we finish the inside of every opening as carefully as the roof above it.
That second half is why we exist. Once the work is finished nobody sees the flashing. What you live with is the lining, the plaster around it and the line where the paint stops, so that is where we slow down.
Why the inside matters to us
A rooflight can be perfectly watertight and still look like a hatch cut into the ceiling. The opening has a depth, the depth has to be lined, and the lining has to meet a ceiling that may be lath and plaster in a Georgian terrace, lime on cob in a Culm valley cottage, or plasterboard in a new build in Cranbrook.
Each of those wants a different edge. Where the roof build is deep we splay the lining wider at the bottom so the opening reads as part of the room. Where the house wants lime, we use lime. Our name for the idea is simple: finished where you'll see it.
The same thinking applies to the roof. A rooflight has to be the right one for the roof it sits in, whether that is Devon slate, concrete tile, a flat roof or the edge of a thatched cottage, and it has to be fitted to current Building Regulations. We treat the roof and the room as one job, and one team is responsible for both.
How we work
- Survey
- We visit, look at the roof from outside and the ceiling from inside, and measure both. We look at the build-up above the room as well as the glass you have in mind.
- Written quote and finish schedule
- You receive a quote in writing, agreed before any work starts, with a finish schedule for the room. It sets out what the ceiling and roof are made of, the shape of the lining, and the surface it ends up with.
- Installation
- The unit is fitted to current Building Regulations. If the job falls under the notification rules, we deal with Building Control for you, so there is no paperwork left on your side.
- Finishing
- The lining is formed, plastered or boarded and taped, and edged to match the ceiling it meets. Dust is managed throughout and the room is left clean.
- The guarantee
- Our work carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee.
None of those steps is unusual. We do every one and write it down, so you always know what is going to happen next in your home.
Who we work for
We work for homeowners. The typical room is one you care about: a kitchen extension with a lantern over the island, a loft bedroom, a landing that has always been dark, a bathroom that could take a small roof window or a sun tunnel. The jobs vary a great deal, so we quote each one from a survey, not from a price list.
Where we work
We cover Exeter and a 30 mile radius, which takes in Exmouth, Topsham, Crediton, Tiverton, Newton Abbot, Torbay, Sidmouth and Honiton, with Dulverton at the Somerset edge. You can see the towns we cover or look through our services.
